Avoid 2 Eye Drop Products, FDA Advises

Aug. 24, 2023 -- Due to potential bacterial or fungal contamination, the FDA is advising the public to refrain from purchasing or using two separate types of eye drops.

Possible infections could endanger life and vision, according to the warning for "Dr. Berne's MSM Drops 5% Solution" and "LightEyez MSM Eye Drops - Eye Repair." The FDA claims that it is unaware of any complaints related to the usage of the items.

The two goods were not sterile as required by federal law and were found to be contaminated with germs during FDA testing. The government stated that the active chemical in both products, methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), is not permitted in eye drop products.

According to the FDA, using infected eye drops "could result in a minor to serious infection threatening vision that could progress to a life-threatening infection."

It suggests that anyone exhibiting symptoms of an eye infection seek prompt medical attention.

The FDA advises you to get rid of these products immediately if you have any.

According to CBS News, the FDA issued a warning earlier this year about other eye drop products connected to a drug-resistant bacterium epidemic. "The outbreak is linked to at least four deaths across 18 states and dozens of infections," CBS reported.
